City of Ottawa awards contract for Lansdowne 2.0 construction
The City of Ottawa has awarded the construction contract for the redevelopment of Lansdowne 2.0 to EBC Inc., a memo to the mayor and council states.
The procedural step that will allow for construction to commence comes after council approved the construction plan for the project on Nov. 7.
“This step included legal and commercial reviews, confirmation of bonding and insurance requirements, and execution of the construction agreement,” the memo from Tammy Rose, general manager of infrastructure at the city, states. “The contract with EBC Inc. has been executed and the City of Ottawa has issued a Commence Work Order.”
A construction notice for Phase 1 of the redevelopment was also issued Nov. 28 which marks the beginning of a 10-year commitment to revitalization.
This phase focusses on the construction of the new Event Centre which includes berm removal and environmental remediation, site servicing, modification to TD Place, underground loading dock construction, Event Centre construction, accessible drop-off infrastructure, new berm construction, and Great Lawn landscaping and wayfinding.
According to the project’s website, there are no planned road closures or detours during Phase 1 construction. TD Place will also remain open.
The city says it commits itself to keeping residents and businesses informed throughout the process.
The memo says that a construction communications campaign will begin in conjunction with the start of construction which will include additional information.
The city is also planning to hold a drop-in public information session to allow residents to learn more about the construction process, its milestones and mitigation efforts. the date of this session has yet to be announced.
