Cold and snow hit Ottawa Region
While Ottawa has evaded much of the snow fall that has pummelled southern Ontario in an early winter lake effect snowstorm, it certainly does not have reprieve from the cold.
The high for Sunday is 0 C, but by the beginning of the week, temperatures will remain in the negatives, reaching a blistering -13 C by Thursday night, according to Environment Canada.
High winds could make it feel much colder. Southwest winds of 20 km/h an expected to produce gusts of up to 50 km/h throughout the day. Environment Canada says the wind direction will change after midnight with gusts of up to 50 km/h coming from the northwest.
The winds can be expected to die down slightly on Monday, but the wind chill will still make it feel like -14 in the morning.
While it may not be enough to spark a snow day, as seen across Waterloo Region late last week, Ottawa can expect some snow to fall. By the end of the day Sunday, Environment Canada forecasts a total accumulation of five to 10 cm.
The weather though does remain unpredictable. Across Ontario’s eastern region, especially those areas along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, snow could temporarily switch to rain.
The OPP is reminding drivers to be prepared for changing road conditions and to adjust driving to meet those conditions.
