Leeds County man accused of attempted murder facing 49 new charges
A 26-year-old man from the Rideau Lakes area who in late September was charged with attempted murder of a child is now facing a total of 63 charges.
The Leeds County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police had
originally charged the man with 13 offences in addition to attempted murder
, but in a news release Tuesday it stated the intimate partner violence and child abuse investigation had resulted in an additional 49 charges.
Police said five victims had been identified in the case. The name of the accused was not released in order to protect the identity of the victims, police said.
The man now faces the following charges:
- Attempt to commit murder
- Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
- Sexual assault
- Sexual interference
- Assault cause bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle), 12 counts
- Assault with a weapon, six counts
- Assault, 14 counts
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, 16 counts
- Forcible confinement, four counts
- Dangerous operation, two counts
- Extortion
- Intimidation — use or threatens use of violence — two counts
- Mischief
- Fail to comply with probation order
The man remained in custody and was scheduled to appear in a Brockville courtroom in February.
Rideau Lakes is a bit more than 100 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.
