Three Ottawa teens charged with armed robberies in Gatineau
Three teenagers from Ottawa were to appear in court Tuesday on criminal charges in connection with a pair of alleged arm robberies in Gatineau a day earlier.
A news release from the Gatineau Police Service said two men, both 19, had been charged with armed robbery, possession of an imitation firearm, armed assault and carrying a concealed weapon, while a 15-year-old male had been charged with armed robbery.
The release said the armed robberies occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. on Feb. 2.
In the first instance, police said, a victim went to an address on Boulevard des Grives in the Plateau neighbourhood to sell a device to a potential buyer after being contacted through Facebook Marketplace. At that location, two individuals confronted the victim, with one of them taking the cellphone while the other brandished what appeared to be a firearm.
The two individuals then fled with the device.
Around 8:50 p.m., a second call was placed to police, this time concerning an incident on Richer Street in the Hull sector. At that point, based on the information they had, police believed that the same individuals could be involved.
Using information gathered during the first call, police were able to locate a suspect vehicle by responding to the second call and arrested the three teens, who were all from Ottawa.
They were held in custody pending court appearances on Tuesday.
The Gatineau Police Service is continuing the investigation, the release added.
