Weekend traffic warning: Watermain valve repairs to close Vanier Parkway ramps and Highway 417 lanes
Attention, Ottawa drivers. Now would be a good time to start thinking of alternate routes around a traffic-impacting shutdown of Queensway ramps at the Vanier Parkway all weekend, or maybe you should just delay planned trips through that area for a few days.
Construction to repair a watermain valve located on Highway 417 will also lead to the closure of three westbound lanes of the highway between Vanier Parkway and the Nicholas Street/Mann Avenue off-ramp from 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, until 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, the City of Ottawa said in an online notice this week.
The designated detour for drivers wanting to access the westbound lanes of Highway 417 from Vanier Parkway will take their vehicles south of the highway on Riverside Drive, then east on Industrial Road past the Canada Post building and entrances to the Ottawa Trainyards commercial complex, then north on St. Laurent Boulevard and back under the highway to its westbound on-ramp to the Queensway.
Got all that?
Delays are expected, the city’s advisory said in reinforcing the obvious.
“The safety of the public and construction workers remains our highest priority and your patience during construction is appreciated. Motorists are encouraged to follow all detour routes, observe traffic control signage and adhere to posted speed limits,” the advisory added.
